Off-Season Training for Skiing

With temperatures warming up and the snow melting in the high country, you may find yourself a little bummed.  Don’t let the lack of snow get you down!  Now is a great time to focus on your dry land training to prepare for next season.  I recommend focusing on two areas to improve your body’s ability to withstand the physical stresses of skiing.

· Improve your endurance, especially your high-speed endurance.
· Improve your lower body strength.

A 2015 study (Johnston) demonstrated that athletes with greater levels of both high-speed endurance in a 6-minute run test for distance and higher levels of strength in the squat suffered less physical stress during training and matches.  So, if you are looking to be able to tackle bigger and more demanding days on the hill this coming ski season focus on these two points!
