Saving wear and tear on the knee joint is a high priority for all athletes. Landing properly from a jump or step down can be a great way to do this. Here are a few tips:
Land with your knees in line with your toes. If your toes are turned out at 45 degrees, your knees should follow them. If your toes are straight ahead, your knees need to be in line with them.
Try to land with your feet between hip and shoulder width
Land in a strong athletic position. Knees bent, hips back and 45-degree lean forward with your chest up. Keep your eyes up and head in a neutral position. Weight should be on the balls of your feet.
Absorb the landing by holding the weight in your glutes and hamstrings, not your quads and knees.
Just remember, the injury you prevent may just be your own.
